The Word became a human and lived among us. We saw His glory – the glory that belongs to the only Son of the Father – and He was full of grace and truth. John 1:14
The house across the street had been vacant for more than a year – an unfortunate but not uncommon story of a wife left by an unfaithful husband and a mortgage to big to maintain in a bad economy by a single mom of three girls. How many times have we heard stories like this only after the moving truck is pulling away and one of the neighbors telling you bits and pieces of what happened. Behind every door is a story.
The other day I saw someone working on the house and realized the For Sale sign was gone. I began to think about all the people who live on my street, who have been here for the last sixteen years that I have live in my house and many of them I don’t really know. I don’t know their story. I decided to drop in on my new neighbors and introduce myself.
God did an amazing thing. He decided to reveal Himself through His Son in human flesh. He decided to show us who He is by living among us. Yet there were many who “did not know Him” even though He lived on the same street for thirty years.
The Apostle John reveals something amazing about his relationship with Jesus. He says, “We saw His glory.” How is it that John saw something that many others did not see? Wasn’t it obvious? Many times we can miss what is right in front of us. John saw what many did not because he believed with anticipation in the coming Messiah and because of this the Father revealed Jesus to him. Are you living with faith and anticipation? Are you looking for Jesus?
This Advent Season remember God had a plan for Jesus to come live among us and for us to see His glory. The moment Jesus was born. God was saying, “I am here with you, see my glory.” He does not want us to go through life feeling alone, like no one notices what we are going through, with no one knowing who we really are. Are you living like you want to be known?
Take a moment to sense the presence of Jesus with you right now. Remember to live today in that presence and to look for His glory. Open yourself to those that live among you and share your life with them.
