How beautiful is the person who comes over the mountains to bring good news, who announces peace and brings good news, who announces salvation and says to Jerusalem, “Your God is King.” Isaiah 52:7
When I was 5 years old my parents gave me a cowboy outfit complete with gun belt, silver cap guns, hat, vest and yes even a star badge. We were visiting my grandparents that Christmas. I woke up early and it looked light outside. So I got up, got dressed cowboy style and went out to play.
I soon realized I had strayed so far from home I was lost and it looked much darker than I thought before. In the darkness I could not tell which way I had come from or which way I needed to go. There was a house that had the front porch light on; so I stepped up and knocked. A lady came to the door and asked me where I lived. I couldn’t tell her. I was lost. Luckily she thought to call my grandparents to see if they had grand kids visiting.
As I stood on the front porch waiting, out of the darkness into the street light from the crest of the hill came a large man. It was my granddaddy coming to get me. He scooped me up and carried me home. At that moment, as I looked out into the darkness I was so overjoyed to see my grandfather who has become my salvation.
These words in Isaiah hit very close to home. There have been many more challenges since I was 5; times where I had come to my end and wondered “what do I do now?” Maybe you feel that way. Maybe you have exhausted all your resources. Maybe all you see is the mountain that stands in the way. Maybe you are lost and don’t know your way home.
Take a moment to look up. When we come to the end our self and our self-effort, look up. From over the mountain comes our Salvation, our Savior. He stands on the mountain of our circumstances. Today look for Him and Rejoice, your Savior has come. Now that’s Good News.
