Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is the Father who is full of mercy and all comfort. 2 Corinthians 1:3
Have you ever heard someone say, “I wish I was never born.” The Christmas season brings some great Christmas movies. One of my favorites, “It’s a Wonderful Life”, tells the story of a man who has lost hope in his circumstances and is given the unexpected opportunity to see what life would be like if he was never born. He believes everyone would be better off if he didn’t exist. He discovers that this is far from the truth and there is hope after all. He discovers how much his life has meant and what everyone would have missed without him in their lives.
Think about what life would be like if someone you love had never come into your life or was never born. How would your life be affected?
What would our world be like if God never sent His Son? What if Jesus never came? How would your life be affected?
When the Father looked down at humanity He knew exactly what we needed. In His mercy and desire to bring comfort to humanity He sent His Son. In Jesus is everything we need. Without Him there is no faith, no hope, and no love.
Take a moment to meditate on the times in your life when Jesus was your comfort, when He gave you hope and you felt His love. Think of the times that you were comforted by others. And think about how the love of Jesus and the experience of His comfort have moved you to love and comfort others. What would life be like if Jesus had never come?
