Lord, you have examined me and know all about me.  Psalm 139:1

We were on our way home from visiting friends in Florida and decided to stop at the Holy Land Experience in Orlando. If you haven’t been there, it’s a walk-through experience of Biblical history – theme park without the rides. One of my favorite parts was the Scriptorium; a visual and dramatic history of the Scriptures. As we moved through the timeline and events surrounding the Bible’s history, we came to a room with Johannes Gutenberg working at his printing press. Pages of the first Bible printed in 1852-1855 by moveable type were hung drying on lines in the rafters waiting to be collated into the most beautiful and important books ever produced.

One of the most fascinating things to me about Gutenberg’s Bible was the printing process. The Gutenberg Bible contained 1280 pages of hand placed type. Each character was a single unique moveable piece hand carved and then cast in iron for durability. It would take an artisan a whole day to carve one character with a total of 290 characters including uppercase and punctuation. Each page required 2600 characters with a total of 3,328,000 unique characters in the entire Bible.

I have been married for 26 years and though I know my wife better than anyone, I still learn new things about her every day. Does anyone fully know you? What if they did?

I am amazed that God examines me, every part, and knows all about me and still loves me.  How does the knowledge that God sees and knows everything about you make you feel?

Like the artisan that meticulously handcrafted the unique pieces of type in Gutenberg’s Bible, God with great precision and care examines every part of you and knows every little thing about you. The best part, He loves you and has a great and unique purpose for you.

Take a moment today to reflect on how special and valuable you are to God. He knows you and will never turn away or abandon you. He gave you his very best – His Son. Think about those around you. They are unique and special too, more than they probably know. Will you show them how much God knows and cares about them today?
